“A Community of Enthusiastic Learners”

If you’ve lived in Maine since the 1990s, you’ve probably heard of the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM). You know, that place way up north (Limestone) where you can get a world-class education *in Maine,* and the only residential magnet school in New England that specializes in mathematics and science education?

And if you or your child has a strong interest in math or science, then you not only know about MSSM, but have been dying to go there.  Here is your chance!

MSSM’s Fall Open House is November 9th and 10th.  It’s a jam-packed couple of days! During the event, prospective students and parents will be able to visit the school’s classrooms, gym, dormitory, and cafeteria, and can sit in on classes. Students will meet current MSSM students and staff, and can schedule their personal interview for admission.

The open house also provides an opportunity for folks to see and visit Aroostook County. The Maine School of Science and Mathematics is located in a rural area, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do. On the contrary! There are many great places to visit in the county from corn mazes in the fall to numerous ski trails in the winter. During the weekends, if students want to go shopping or just get out of the dorm for a little while, there are bus runs to Caribou and Presque Isle.

To find out a little more about MSSM and to see what kinds of cool things they do there before you attend the open house, check out their Youtube channel where you can watch calculus music videos (that’s not a misprint) or meet MSSM’s Executive Director, Luke Shorty.

Look for more about and from the Maine School of Science and Mathematics at our festival in March!
