More than basketball

School vacation is next week and if you and your kids are not up to attending the wide array of high school basketball games Maine has to offer, many of our partners have other activities your familiy might enjoy.

The Challenger Learning Center is having a science camp for ages 5 through grade 5. Your children will build simple circuits, learn the science of music, space travel and more!

The Maine Discovery Museum also has a February vacation camp for ages 4 and up. Kids will be conducting science experiments, creating crafts and having lots of play time in the museum. If you just want to visit the MDM with your children during February vacation, the museum will be open all week, including Presidents Day. (And check with your local library for a free museum pass for up to 4 visitors!)

Does your teen like ice cream? The Bangor Public Library is having Brain Freeze, an event to honor National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day on Friday, February 20th. This program is open to teenagers in 6th through 12 grades. Call 947-8336 ext. 111 for more information and to register.

If drama is what your kiddo is into, the Penobscot Theatre Company is hosting a theatrical day camp for ages 4-14 at the Bangor Opera House. Each day will have a different theme, so children can attend all or any of the days. For more information, call 947-6618.

Or are you ready to skip February and just want spring to arrive? It’s just a few weeks away, and along with spring comes the Maine Science Festival. We’ll have so much to celebrate!
