“End Days” is a quirky yet heartwarming comedy about science, religion and family, written by Deborah Zoe Laufer and will be running at Penobscot Theatre in conjunction with the Maine Science Festival.
Sylvia Stein, a former Jew who has converted to Christianity, has a very close relationship to Jesus–she sees and talks to him often. Due to this relationship, she has insider information about the Rapture and it’s scheduled for Wednesday! Sylvia is determined that she and her quirky family (husband Arthur lost his job on 9/11 and now lives in his pajamas; daughter Rachel, Goth teen who is a math whiz and looks to Stephen Hawking for advice; and neighbor Nelson who dresses like Elvis and has a love for both physics and Rachel) will not be left behind.
The play shows an intersection of faith and science that is sure to inspire conversations. There will be a series of panel discussions before or after several performances, including one session during the Maine Science Festival. The panel entitled, Science and Faith, will take place at the Bangor Opera House on March 22 at 5:30, after the matinee performance of “End Days.” The panel will feature representatives of the medical, scientific, academic and health communities, along with the creative team behind the play.
“End Days” runs from March 12 through March 29 at the Bangor Opera House with performances Wednesdays through Sundays. Tickets start at $22 and are available online or by calling 207-942-3333.
